Park Rapids Fishing Report

8-1-18

Waters temps - depending on the lake ranging from high 70s to low 80s.

Walleye-  Weelines are definitely where most of the action has been happening. Look for cabbage close to those deeper drop offs or any distinct line of weeds. Inside weed edges with points with the occasional rock or gravel can also be hot spots. Pitching light jigs in the weeds has been the most productive in the shallows and dragging a lindy or slow death rig has been the ticket for the deeper fish. Pulling spinners with a crawler harness is a very effective way to cover ground also trolling shad raps at night is very effective at night for those willing to stay out! The beauty of this time of year is the fish are eating minnows, leeches, and crawlers so be sure to stock up on all 3! Fishing a lighted bobber at night with a leech or minnow has also been very effective!

Panfish- The crappie bite has stayed consistent in the area even as they move out to those deeper cabbage points and flats. Small leeches on a slip bobber or a waxie on a Irvs Magic Jig have been the most effective lately. Blue and Pink have been the color of choice. The Crow Wing Chain and fishhook lake have been producing some good numbers of panfish and crappies.

Pike - Live bait rigs with a larger sucker minnow will put fish in the boat. Also a larger float with a minnow is very effective. For those wanting to fish artificial a white spinner bait or chatter bait wont let you down! Target cabbage beds and and weed beds off points for those better pike! Remember to checkout the new limits for pike as well!

Muskie - The bite has really picked up over the last week with numerous giants being caught over the last few days. Leech Lake, Mantrap, and Many Point have all been producing some action.

Leech lake Report - Leech has been up and down lately with temps in the mid to high 70s. Sand flats in 14 to 24 has been the most consistent as they move into their summer patterns. But as always its all about the wind on Leech Lake make sure to fish the wind blown points and dropoffs for best results. Trolling spinners and crankbaits has been very effective to cover ground and find fish.
