Park Rapids Area Fishing Report
Summer is finally in full effect! Hot temps and warms warm - just what we want in July! With that being said, fishing has been good around the area. Take a peek below for your target specie and apply the techniques and tips to ensure success on the water!
Walleye- Walleye's have made their way out to summer living quarters. Sunny windless days try a bit deeper in the 18-24 foot range targeting weedlines and hard to soft bottom transitions. Lindy rigs with a leech or crawler have been best but don't be afraid of ripping a jigging rap to trigger bites.
Panfish- Crappies out of on weedlines and suspending over deep water. Once you find a school hold tight as it could be hot and heavy for a bit! Black and white hair jigs tipped with a waxie or crappie minnow have been the ticket. Don't be afraid of trying plastics either - an irv's magic jig with a wax is hard to beat! Anywhere you can find shade you'll find bluegills. They aren't fussy this time or year so a slip bottom with a bare hook or jig tipped with a waxie, small leech, nightcrawler or crappie minnow are all great options!
Muskie - Muskie's are on the move! With the water temps rising the ski's are chasing more aggressively! Burning bucktails have been the hot ticket item the last week! Inside weedlines in 5-8 ft and outside weedlines in 14-18 have been holding the most fish. Don't be afraid to fish after dark either as you'll see a lot less boats on the lake at that time!
Pike - Live bait rigs with a larger sucker minnow will put fish in the boat. Also a larger float with a minnow is very effective. For those wanting to fish artificial a white spinner bait or chatter bait wont let you down! Target cabbage beds and and weed beds off points for those bigger pike! Remember to checkout the new limits for pike as well!
Make sure to stop in and check out our bait selection from minnows to crawlers to a wide variety of plastics and hard baits! We have the largest selection of tackle in area and are your one stop shop for everything outdoors!
Have a great week on the water!
