Park Rapids Fishing Report
The time to be on the lake is now! With the weather finally getting back on track to normal the fishing has getting better by the day. Waters temps depending on the lake are ranging from the mid 60's to low 70s. Don't be afraid to try new techniques - with lot's of boats on the water these days showing the fish something new can pay dividends!
Walleye- Waldo's can still be found in the shallows during the low light conditions but during the day the fish have started to move out a bit as the weedlines are starting to develop. Inside weed edges with points with the occasional rock or gravel can be hot spots. Look for the deeper weedlines for the day bite. Pitching light jigs in the weeds have most porductive in the shallows and dragging a lindy or casting jigs have been the ticket for the deeper fish. The beauty of this time of year is the fish are eating minnows. leeches and crawlers so be sure to stock up on all!
Panfish- The crappie bite has stayed consistent in the area as a major of the fish are still hanging out in the shallows. Fish can be found on inside weed edges or edges of bullrushes. Some fish are still full of eggs so be sure to only take a few for the frying pan to ensure a healthy population in the fututre1
Pike - Live bait rigs with a larger sucker minnow will put fish in the boat. For those wanting to fish artificial a white spinner bait or chatter bait wont let you down!
Leech lake Report - Most walleyes were caught between 4-10 ft. The afternoon bite seemed to be a little better then the morning. Sucker Bay and the Goose Flats were the most productive for putting fish in the boat. Lindy rigs with leech, rainbow, or shiner were all productive or a 1/8th oz jig tipped with a rainbow or fathead. Those looking for a bigger fish a large creek chub on a rig is hard to beat.
